| Case Study: Drug Metabolism |
| Business Challenge: |
| A biotech company wished to investigate the Phase I and Phase II metabolites of a range of drug candidates
developed by their medicinal chemists. They wished to minimize the amount of material required for the study and to avoid the tedious separation
of the metabolites from liver microsomes as required in an in vitro study. |
| BEST-Bio Solution: |
| BEST-Bio was able to offer a turnkey solution to their metabolite study. Our solution was to minimize the amount
of material, cost, and time required for the study by using electrochemistry coupled to liquid chromatogarphy and mass spectrometry (EC/LC-MS). |
| Electrochemical oxidation proved to be an excellent mimic for liver microsomes in generating Phase I metabolites.
In this work, BEST-Bio was able to further react the Phase I metabolites with glutathione and generate the corresponding Phase II metabolite adduct.
BEST-Bio was able to rapidly generate the drug analog metabolite and identify those metabolites by mass spectrometry. |
